In August 1984, Graham Willersdorf and Coral Anderson spoke to local orchid growers who were enthusiastic about starting a society for the growing Noosa Shire and surrounding areas.
The Noosa District Orchid & Foliage Society held its inaugural meeting on 18 September 1984 at the Uniting Church Hall, Cooroy, with around 16 people attending.
The society subsequently met in Eumundi and Cooroy. In its early years, members displayed at fetes and shopping centres, held an annual autumn display and a spring show, and were supported by the Sunshine Coast Orchid Society.
Today, the society continues to promote interest in the conservation, cultivation, knowledge and breeding of orchids and other foliage plants, including indigenous and exotic species and hybrids.
